Emigrated to America in 1851. Went to Stockbridge as a language teacher in Oct, of 1851. His first wif was said to have been his landlade in Stockbridge, whom he married to avoid paying the rent. Said to have carried 3 bottles of wine in pockets in his frock coat to his 2nd wedding where the father of the bride (Rev. Bullard) and most of the guests were teetotalers.
