| Notes for Benjamin Bullard |
Born in England. Lived in Watertown, Mass, Dedham, then in Sherborn Mass. on the west side of the Charles River. Date of marriage also given as Apr. 5, 1659. Second wife was Elizabeth. He was a large landholder becoming the proprietor of large tracts of land in Medway, Sherborn and Holliston, some of which have been retained in the family name down to the present day.. One of the group who formed the church at Sherborn.
"In the interesting account given by Mr. Morse, it is related that "they built for a garrison-house a spacious and regular fortress. It was superior to any similar structure on the then frontier." He further adds that "to this place of security our ancestors for more than two generations, were accustomed to fleed in times of alarm, and here no small number of their children were born."1
"From all accounts handed down by his contemporaries, he seems to have ben regarded a man of rare energy and force of character."1 |
